I'll start by saying that I am no where near guru status on offshore cooking. The fact is I get seasick while Marty pounces around on deck like he is at some combination of a music concert and a tennis match and he eats like non-stop, seriously (and this cruising thing was my idea!) In preparation for our "situation" I prepare as much food ahead of time as possible which provides my experience to write on this subject. If it were up to me I'd have a container of raw nuts combined with dried fruit and some crackers. At this stage in our cruising life the longest we have been offshore is 9 days. We expect to be making longer passages in the nearer future but as of now, that is where my experience in offshore food preparation lies.
Below is a list of food topics that all cruisers face while sailing offshore. These topics include stuff important to our health, safety, and for the advancement and support of people and companies who simply want to do the right thing.

Packaged & Canned Foods: Ideally we wouldn't be eating packaged and canned foods and that's doable while travelling in counrties with fresh produce but making long distance passages is a different story. Most canned foods contain BPA which is designed to kill bacteria in foods- it sounds ok right. The problem is that BPA has been linked to obesity, cancer, diabetes, birth defects, and other serious illnesses. The chemical is especially dangerous to children. It acts like a hormone and affects our endrocine glands. It's still possible of course to eat all fresh foods if you prepare and jar/can food yourself and that's a great idea but personally I'm not there. Marty and I rely on a mix of packaged foods and fresh foods I've prepared in advance before we depart on any trip.
